Michelle Short-Azure is an enrolled member of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa. Mrs. Short-Azure earned a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Geology and Technology from the School of Engineering and Mines from the University of North Dakota with an emphasis in water resources.

Mrs. Short-Azure started working at the Turtle Mountain Community College in 2002 as a part-time instructor and is currently the Project Director for the TMCC Extension Program. This program is located at the Anishinabe Learning, Cultural & Wellness Center. Projects she has been involved with include the Turtle Mountain Youth Leadership program, Turtle Mountain Community Wellness Conference, Wellness Conference Youth Track, Native American gardening, community gardening, various workshops, community outreach and education.
