Position Description: Upward Bound Academic Advisor

Starting Salary: Grade 5+, Range($28,240.00 to 30,640.00)

Educational Qualifications:
Must have completed a minimum of a Bachelors Degree in Education, Career Counseling or a related field and two years experience.

  • Excellent writing, spelling and grammar.
  • Strong collaboration and teamwork skills.
  • Computer skills in using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.
  • Ability to work with young adults.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide information about project and eligibility criteria to the staff of target schools and to the students and community via posters, flyers, letters to the students’ homes, presentations at schools and other community organizations
  • Serve as a team member in the development of Individual Plan of Services
  • Cooperate with other college staff members and the staff of the target schools
  • Provide tutorial services for individuals and small groups
  • Provide academic advisement to participants including assistance in secondary school course selection
  • Monitor participant progress through regular meetings with target school staff
  • Assist students in preparing for college entrance examinations
  • Guide students in activities designed to acquaint students from disadvantaged backgrounds with careers in which these individuals are underrepresented
  • Display Upward Bound materials at interagency community fairs and other activities to meet with, screen and advise community participants
  • Facilitate workshops for participants and families
  • Adhere to policies protecting confidentiality of students
  • Maintain record keeping necessary to document level of effort and services provided, to include transcripts and weekly service logs
  • Prepare written monthly reports of activities
